Privacy policy

Last updated: July 28, 2021

Soundslice is committed to your privacy. We collect personal data only when necessary, and we severely limit what information we share with third parties.

This privacy policy describes what personal data we collect and what we do with it.

Throughout this policy, the terms “Soundslice,” “we,” and “us” refer to our company, Soundslice LLC, an Illinois Limited Liability Company. The terms “site” or “our site” refer to our website soundslice.com plus any subdomains thereof, such as www.soundslice.com.

“Personal data” is any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.

What personal data we collect and why

The personal data we collect differs based on what you do on our site.

If you use our site without logging in, then the only data we collect is your browser and device data, such as IP address and web browser name/version.

If you create a Soundslice account, then we collect the aforementioned device data as well as your email address, username and account password. Per security best practices, your password is stored as an salted “one-way hash.” Raw passwords are never stored or logged in our system.

If you make payments to Soundslice — for example, by purchasing a course from our store or signing up for a paid plan — then naturally we collect your payment information as part of the process. But we do not store your raw payment information after the transaction is complete; we immediately forward it to third-party payment processors Stripe or PayPal to finish the processing. We store only a record of the last four digits of the credit-card number (in case of credit-card payments), along with the transaction ID provided by Stripe or PayPal.

If you create a public Soundslice profile (a “channel”), you have the option of providing personal information such as a bio, full name, personal website URL, profile picture and links to social media profiles. By design, this is entirely public and entirely voluntary. As with any public forum, this information might appear in third-party search engines such as Google. Think carefully about what you make public.

If you create content within our site — for example, by uploading a performance video or creating music notation — then this may be construed as personal data depending on the nature of your creation.

If you contact us — for example, via email or via our site’s feedback form — then whatever information you provide to us may be construed as personal data.

How personal data is used

All personal data we collect is used only for the following purposes:

  • To provide you with our products and services
  • To maintain, improve and get insight into our products and services
  • To contact you if needed

How to remove your personal data

If you delete your Soundslice account, we will remove your personal data from our system and anonymize any related records that we require for bookkeeping.

For example, if you’ve ever bought something from our store or had a paid plan, we retain records of your payments for accounting purposes — but these records become anonymized and are no longer associated with your email address or any other personal data.

Which third-party services we use

The following third-party services are used on our site and may access aspects of your personal data:

Extra steps we take to protect privacy

We deliberately take the following extra steps, as a matter of principle:

  • We do not sell your data.
  • We do not put third-party advertising on our website.
  • We do not put third-party tracking beacons on our website, such as Facebook “Like” buttons.
  • We do not support account login via third-party services such as Facebook.
