Enabling instrument visualizations
When you create music in Soundslice, you can optionally activate various instrument visualizations that help people learn the music:
Here’s how to enable/disable these visualizations in your slices.
Visual piano keyboard
Soundslice enables the piano keyboard visualization by default, as long as your slice contains at least one non-percussion instrument.
To disable this visualization for a particular instrument, edit the instrument and uncheck the “Piano” checkbox in the Visualizations section.
The keyboard visualization will automatically go away when you’ve disabled the visualization for every instrument in your slice. Note that you can selectively enable the visualization for only certain instruments in a slice; if you do this, people will only be able to view the visualization for those certain instruments.
Visual fretboard
Soundslice enables the fretboard visualization by default, as long as your slice contains at least one tablature instrument.
There’s currently no way to disable the fretboard visualization, unless you’re in the Licensing plan. If you’re in the Licensing plan, you can use a URL parameter in your embed code to disable the fretboard visualization.
Visual trombone
The trombone visualization is not enabled by default — you have to opt into it.
To enable this visualization for a particular instrument, edit the instrument and check the “Trombone” checkbox in the Visualizations section.
If your slice has multiple trombone parts, you can indeed enable the trombone visualization for all of them. If you do this, your students will be able to switch parts within the visualization by clicking the part name at the left of the visualization.
Selecting the position for a note
Because a trombone can play the same note in multiple positions, we provide a way for you to specify which position the visualization should use for a particular note.
By default, we’ll automatically select the highest position (i.e., the lowest position number) that doesn’t use the trigger. To change this for a given note, using our editor:
- Select the note.
- Search the editor for “Set trombone slide position.”
- By default, “Calculate automatically?” will be set to Yes. Change this to No.
- You’ll then see a place to enter the position number (1 through 7) and specify whether the trigger should be used.
- That’s it! Immediately after you close that menu, the visualization will use your specified position.
Please note that this “Set trombone slide position” feature only affects the visualization; it does not alter your notation in any way.
Visual trumpet
The trumpet visualization is not enabled by default — you have to opt into it.
To enable this visualization for a particular instrument, edit the instrument and check the “Trumpet” checkbox in the Visualizations section.
If your slice has multiple trumpet parts, you can indeed enable the trumpet visualization for all of them. If you do this, your students will be able to switch parts within the visualization by clicking the part name at the left of the visualization.
Visual violin
The violin fingerboard visualization is not enabled by default — you have to opt into it.
To enable the visualization for a particular instrument, edit the instrument and check the “Violin” checkbox in the Visualizations section.
If your slice has multiple violin parts, you can indeed enable the violin visualization for all of them. If you do this, your students will be able to switch parts within the visualization by clicking the part name at the left of the visualization.
