Using the visual violin

Learning violin with Soundslice? We offer a violin fingerboard visualization, showing you which strings to play and where to put your fingers.

The appropriate note lights up in real time during audio/video playback. You can view an example here.

What if I don’t see that icon?

The slice owner needs to opt into the violin visualization. If they haven’t activated this in the slice, you won’t be able to use this feature. Here’s information on how to enable the visual violin in a slice you’ve created.

What are those thick vertical lines across the fingerboard?

These represent the traditional “tape” marks that indicate the standard positions of the instrument.

How does Soundslice know which string to play a note on?

We determine this automatically based on the note value and position information in the music notation.

If you’re the slice owner, you can enter positions in our editor via the “Roman numeral position” command (available via editor search). Once a position marking is in place, it will affect that note and all subsequent notes for purposes of the violin visualization.
