Introducing private performances and direct audio recording

We’ve added a way for you to record audio of yourself directly in Soundslice. Your recordings are private and live in a new “Performances” section of the notebook.

This is an easy, lightweight way to track your progress on any music in Soundslice. It can be really motivating to compare how your playing has improved over time. Here’s how it works:

First, view any slice sitewide. (Doesn’t matter if it’s one you’ve created yourself.) Click “Notebook” at upper right, and you’ll notice a new Performances section.

Click “Add” there, and you’ll see a bar at the bottom of your notation:

You have a few options here. Click “Record” to immediately record audio directly from your web browser, or click “Upload” to upload an existing audio or video file.

If you record in your browser, you’ll have the option to listen back to it, save it, discard it or try again.

If you opt to save it, the audio/video will get added to your Performances list in the notebook. You can listen back to it any time, or download the raw file, or delete it.

Performances are totally private to you. If you’ve shared your slice with somebody else, that person will not see your performances.

Shared performances

We already had the concept of “performances” in Soundslice, but it was limited to student-teacher relationships in our Teacher plan. That particular feature has been renamed to “Shared performances” now. And the new record-yourself-in-the-browser functionality is available there too.

For more info on all this, see our new help page in performances.
