Bar numbering

Here’s how to control bar numbering using the Soundslice editor.

Default bar numbering

By default, the first bar in your slice gets bar number 1, and so on. We do not display the bar number until the second system, and we only display it at the start of each system:

Changing bar numbering

To change a bar’s number, select any note or rest in the bar, then:

  • In the editor’s top panel, open the “Bar” section and click the bar number icon .
  • Or: Search the editor for “Override bar number.”

You’ll see a simple screen that lets you enter the bar number:

If you’ve overridden a bar number, all subsequent bars will be labeled relative to your override — so you only need to override one bar. For example, if you change the first bar’s number to “9,” the second bar will automatically be labeled as bar 10, and so on, without you needing to override the subsequent bars.

If you’ve overridden a bar number, the number will always be displayed in notation. Otherwise, we only display bar numbers for the first bar in each stave.

Hiding bar numbers

Check the box “Hide all bar numbers” to hide all bar numbering throughout the slice.

Dealing with pickup bars

You might also want to mark your bar as a pickup bar. See here for more info.

Bar numbers in passages

In a new passage, bar number is reset to 1, and the number is hidden for the first system in the passage. You can override this by manually specifying a bar number for the first bar in the passage.

Showing bar numbers for every bar

We don’t yet have a way to show a bar number for every bar — but this is on our to-do list.
