Ottavas (8va)

Here’s how to set ottavas, such as 8va or 8vb, using the Soundslice editor.

Setting an ottava marking

  1. Select the note(s) you’d like to add the ottava marking to.
  2. In editor’s top panel, open the “Notes” section and click the “8va” icon .

You’ll see the “Set octave” screen:

Choose your preferred marking by clicking on it. To remove the marking, click “None.”

Once you’ve added the marking, the note will be positioned on a different staff line. Adding the marking will not change the note’s pitch — it will merely change the note’s vertical position. You can always change the note’s octave if you’d like to change its pitch value.

    Supported markings

    • 8va — notation is sounded one octave higher than written
    • 8vb — notation is sounded one octave lower than written
    • 15ma (above) — notation is sounded two octaves higher than written
    • 15ma (below) — notation is sounded two octaves lower than written
