Multi-bar rests

Here’s how to manage multi-bar rests using the Soundslice editor.

Adding a multi-bar rest

Screenshot

  1. Create several bars of rests.
  2. Select the rest in the first bar.
  3. In the editor’s top panel, open the “Bar” section and click the “Set multi-bar rest” icon . Or search the editor for “Set multi-bar rest.”
  4. It will ask you how long (how many bars) you’d like the multi-bar rest to be.

The editor will automatically make sure none of the bars in that range contain any notes. If any of the bars in that range contain notes, you won’t be able to create the multi-bar rest.

Changing the length of a multi-bar rest

  1. Click the multi-bar rest.
  2. You’ll see the “Set multi-bar rest” screen.
  3. Change the number of bars as appropriate.

Removing a multi-bar rest

  1. Click the multi-bar rest.
  2. You’ll see the “Set multi-bar rest” screen.
  3. Click “Delete” in the lower right corner.

Behavior of multi-bar rests with multiple instruments

If your slice has multiple instruments and only one of those instruments has a multi-bar rest, the multi-bar rest will be drawn in an extended way (with barlines shown):

If, however, you give the other instrument its own multi-bar rest, then our engine will figure out that the barlines don’t need to be shown:
