Circled string numbers

Circled string numbers tell a musician the recommended string to play a note on. This is used, for example, in classical guitar music.

Here’s how to edit these numbers using the Soundslice editor.

Entering circled string numbers

1. Select the note whose number you want to set.
2. In the editor’s top panel, open the “Performance” section and click the “Set circled string number” button . Or search the editor for “Set circled string number” or use a keyboard shortcut.
3. At the left of your screen, you’ll see a place for you to enter the number. Enter the number here, then click “Done.”

Quick number entry

While the string number entry interface is open at left, you can hit the spacebar to select the subsequent note. This makes it fast and easy to enter string numbers: enter a number, then hit spacebar, then enter a number for the next note, etc.

Changing circled string numbers

1. Click the circled string number directly in your notation.
2. At the left of your screen, you’ll see a place for you to edit that number. Edit a number here, then click “Done.”

Deleting circled string numbers

To delete a given number, click on it in your notation to make the number interface appear at left. Then hit “Delete” at the bottom.

Positioning

By default, our engine will position circled string numbers automatically — either above or below the notes.

If you don’t like a number’s automatic positioning, you can manually specify the position in our editor. When editing the circled string number, change the position to “Above” or “Below” instead of “Automatic.”
